Kitepod and ManageWP: What Happens After the 1-Click Login
Updated October 31, 2026
ManageWP gets you into any client's wp-admin in one click, free, on unlimited sites. What you do once you're inside is still your job.
Kitepod picks up from there. It won't stand in as a ManageWP alternative for backups, uptime alerts or client reports, because it has none of those. What it does is connect the AI assistant you already pay for (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor) to the same sites, so the assistant can make the edit, fix the broken section or chase down the error that ManageWP's dashboard flagged.
If ManageWP's free plan already covers your maintenance, there's nothing to switch. Kitepod goes on top, and your ManageWP bill stays exactly what it was. If you're specifically trying to leave ManageWP for its maintenance features, compare it with WP Umbrella or MainWP instead.

After the 1-click login
ManageWP is very good at knowing things. Which sites have updates waiting, which failed a security check, what goes in this month's client report.
But the client email doesn't say "run a security check." It says the opening hours are wrong in the footer, the testimonial slider on the homepage is showing last year's quotes, and can you add the new plumber to the team page. ManageWP gets you into wp-admin fast. Then the clicking through menus is yours, one site at a time.
Kitepod hands that part to your assistant. It reads and writes posts, pages, menus, global styles, widgets and builder layouts, sets SEO fields through Yoast or Rank Math, and can pull up Site Health, the last fatal error and the debug log when something breaks. Every connected site is in the same conversation, so a change across four client sites is one request.
Safe Updates and undo are different tools
ManageWP's Safe Updates is a well-designed feature. It takes a full restore point, runs the update, screenshots the page you picked, and rolls the whole site back on its own if that page returns a 4xx or 5xx error. You get it with the premium Backup add-on.
Kitepod works at a smaller scale. It snapshots each write before it happens, so if your assistant changed the wrong menu on Tuesday, you undo that one change for up to 90 days without rolling back anything else. A restore point saves you from a broken update; a per-change undo saves you from a wrong edit.
You want both. And since Kitepod isn't a backup service, ManageWP's backups stay your safety net if the server itself goes down.
A 30-site agency's ManageWP bill
Take 30 client sites with premium backups, uptime monitoring and advanced client reports. At ManageWP's per-site prices that's $2 + $1 + $1, or $4 a site, so $120 a month. Past 25 sites ManageWP also offers flat bundles of up to 100 sites each, and the all-in-one package is $150 a month.
Putting Kitepod on the same 30 sites adds $0. The AI runs on your own Claude or ChatGPT subscription.
What ManageWP does that Kitepod doesn't
Scheduled backups. Uptime checks. Security and vulnerability scanning. SEO ranking and link monitoring. White-label reports a client actually opens. None of that is on Kitepod's list.
And if your sites are hosted with GoDaddy, ManageWP's Safe Updates page says Backup, Uptime Monitor and Safe Updates come free with the hosting.
Adding Kitepod next to ManageWP
Leave the ManageWP Worker plugin alone. Kitepod connects separately.
- Upload the Kitepod plugin on a client site through Plugins → Add New → Upload (WordPress 6.4+, PHP 7.4+).
- Click Connect in wp-admin, sign in to Kitepod, and choose the WordPress user your assistant should act as.
- Paste
https://kitepod.com/mcpinto your assistant as a custom connector, then sign in and Allow. - Repeat for the other sites. They all show up in the same chat.
The next time a change request comes in, forward it as-is:
On the Ridgeway Plumbing site, change the footer hours to 7am to 6pm weekdays and add Dan Okafor to the Team page with the photo I'm uploading.
If you sell maintenance as a monthly package, WordPress care plan covers how to split the work between a dashboard and an assistant. How the connection itself works is on WordPress MCP.
Finer points
Is ManageWP free?
The core is free on unlimited sites, including monthly backups, security and performance checks and client reports. Premium add-ons cost $1 or $2 a site a month, as of October 2026.
Does ManageWP have AI features?
Its pricing page doesn't mention any as of October 2026. You can still point an AI assistant at the same sites through an MCP server like Kitepod.
When did GoDaddy buy ManageWP?
In September 2016. WP Tavern reported on 6 September 2016 that ManageWP had been acquired by GoDaddy for an undisclosed amount.
Does ManageWP's Safe Updates roll back automatically?
Yes. Its feature page says it takes a full restore point and rolls back automatically if a 4xx or 5xx error shows up after the update. It needs the premium Backup add-on.
Do I still need backups if I use Kitepod?
Yes. Kitepod keeps a snapshot of each change for undo, but it isn't a backup service, and if the server is down it can't reach the site at all.
