Breakdance AI writes your copy. It won't build the section.
Updated October 31, 2026
Breakdance AI is a writing assistant: it rewrites the text already sitting in your sections. To use it you pay twice, once for a Breakdance AI license and again for OpenAI API usage on your own key.
What it doesn't do is add a section, edit a footer or touch a global block. For that you need something that can write a Breakdance layout, and Breakdance layouts are fussy. The element tree is a JSON string stored inside another JSON object.
Get the wrapping wrong and the page won't load, so Kitepod only ever saves a layout the way Breakdance does, then regenerates Breakdance's cache for that post and snapshots it for 90 days of undo.
What you can ask for
Rewrite the intro on the Weddings page so it sounds less formal, and change the button under it from "Contact" to "Check my date".
Your assistant reads the page, rewrites that one text element and changes the button label. The rest of the layout is left as it was.
You check it on a preview link first. When it's published, Kitepod visits the live page and keeps a before-and-after pair of screenshots.
Add a packages section under the gallery on the Weddings page: three columns for Half day, Full day and Elopement, with prices £1,400, £2,200 and £850.
Your assistant copies the settings from a matching section already on the page, so the new one gets the same fonts, spacing and colors as its neighbours. Ask for an element your copy of Breakdance doesn't include and Kitepod says no instead of improvising.
On Breakdance Free, Pro-only elements would show an upgrade notice, which your assistant flags before using one.
Our "2027 dates now open" banner is a global block. Change it to "Only six 2027 Saturdays left".
Global blocks are reused across pages, so this one edit changes every page that embeds the banner. You're warned before anything's saved, and because it shows site-wide, the default policy wants a human to approve it.
After it goes out, Kitepod regenerates the cache and flushes the page cache, so the old banner doesn't hang around.
Breakdance's AI Writing Assistant
Breakdance's docs describe the add-on as something that "connects builder writing tools to an AI service." You pick GPT-4o mini or GPT-4o, use its "Available For" setting to give each user role the full interface, edit content only, or no access, and set a daily token allowance, all under Breakdance > Settings > AI Assistant.
The 2024 launch post listed one-click section writing, editing single text elements, macros across pages, locking text so updates skip it, and multiple variations.
It put the price after the beta at $79.99 a year for one site or $149.99 for unlimited sites, and called that pricing tentative. The current docs page doesn't list a price, so check before buying.
OpenAI usage is on top. Breakdance's docs say so directly: "The add-on's license does not grant API access."
For quick rewrites while you look at the page, it's handy, and the per-role access is a good fit for agencies whose clients log into the builder.
Breakdance's docs, as we read them in October 2026, don't mention an official MCP server or abilities, so there's no official route for an outside assistant to edit layouts.
| Breakdance AI | Kitepod | |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | Writes and rewrites text in the builder | Reads and writes layouts, templates, headers, footers and global blocks |
| Cost | Add-on license plus OpenAI API usage | Free; your existing AI subscription does the work |
| Model | GPT-4o mini or GPT-4o | Whatever your assistant uses |
| Cache after a change | Not its job | Regenerated for the post |
| Going back | Not published | Undo any edit for 90 days |
Connecting Kitepod
Three steps, roughly two minutes. Add the Kitepod plugin to the site (it wants WordPress 6.4+ and PHP 7.4+). Press Connect and nominate the WordPress user the AI should act as, ideally one with Breakdance builder rights. Then add https://kitepod.com/mcp as a connector in your assistant and approve the sign-in; WordPress MCP shows the screens for each app.
Code blocks, caches and blank pages
- PHP Code Blocks and dynamic shortcodes run when Breakdance builds its cache. They're code, and they need Breakdance's builder permission for the user you connected.
- If the front end still shows an old layout, Kitepod can regenerate Breakdance's cache for that post, or for every post after a site-wide change.
- A page that was opened in the builder once and left blank can look like a Breakdance page without having a layout. Your assistant checks for a real one before editing.
- Writing the layout through WP-CLI or a REST meta update stores it in a form Breakdance can't read. Kitepod never does that, and you shouldn't either.
Finer points
Does Breakdance have an MCP server?
Breakdance's docs don't describe one. Kitepod is a free remote MCP server, and it reads and writes Breakdance layouts. The MCP Adapter guide covers the official WordPress route some other builders use.
Do I need Breakdance AI to use Kitepod?
No. Kitepod doesn't run a model, so there's no OpenAI key or add-on license. Your Claude or ChatGPT plan does the thinking.
Can I keep Breakdance AI and use Kitepod too?
Yes. Kitepod doesn't need the add-on and doesn't remove it. Breakdance AI can handle copy inside the builder while your assistant handles layouts and the rest of the site.
Does it work with Breakdance Free?
Yes, with the elements Free includes. Pro-only elements show an upgrade notice on a Free site.
