Claude + WordPress: stop pasting Claude's answers into wp-admin

Updated October 31, 2026

You already ask Claude how to fix your site. Then you copy the answer, open wp-admin, hunt for the right screen and paste it in by hand.

That copy-paste step is the whole problem, and it's the part you can delete. A Claude WordPress connection lets Claude open the page, make the edit and check it, while you read the summary. It works in the Claude web app, the desktop app, the mobile app once you've added it, and Claude Code.

The connector is Kitepod, a free MCP server plus a small WordPress plugin. Your Claude plan covers the thinking. Kitepod's job is getting each request to the site safely and keeping a copy of what it changed.

What you'd ask instead of copying

Picture a podcast whose WordPress site holds 180 episode pages of show notes.

Ask your assistant

Add timestamps and a guest bio to the show notes for episode 112, using the transcript I just pasted.

Claude finds the episode page, writes the new sections into it, and Kitepod snapshots the old version first. If the host wanted the bio shorter, you ask for it shorter.

Ask your assistant

Find every episode page with no featured image and list them, newest first.

A read-only request like this changes nothing. It's the kind of audit you'd never do by clicking through 180 pages, and it takes Claude one pass.

Ask your assistant

Make the episode player section full width and send me a preview link.

Design edits are staged by default, so you get a preview link first. Nothing goes live until you publish it.

Setup: plugin, connect, connector

Nothing to copy from a settings page, no key, no password. Claude signs in with OAuth.

  1. On your site, upload the Kitepod zip through Plugins → Add New → Upload. It runs on WordPress 6.4+ with PHP 7.4+.
  2. Open Kitepod in wp-admin, press Connect, log in and choose which WordPress account Claude works as. If you pick an Editor account, Claude can't install plugins, because an Editor can't.
  3. Add the connector in Claude (next section) and approve the sign-in.

Claude web, desktop and mobile

  1. Go to Customize → Connectors, click + Add, then Add custom connector. Or open this link, which jumps straight to the dialog.
  2. Call it Kitepod. The server URL is https://kitepod.com/mcp.
  3. Follow the dialog through to Add, then click Connect, log in to Kitepod and press Allow.

Once it's added on the web or desktop app, it's in the mobile app too.

As of October 2026, Anthropic's help page lists custom connectors on Free, Pro, Max, Ultra, Team and Enterprise. Free accounts get one custom connector, so on Free, Kitepod would be your one. On Team and Enterprise an Owner adds it for the organization first, then each person clicks Connect for themselves.

Claude Code

From the terminal, run this once:

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user kitepod https://kitepod.com/mcp

Then run /mcp inside Claude Code, pick kitepod and sign in. The --scope user part makes it available in every project, not only the folder you're in.

Claude Code and theme files

This is where people get nervous, and fairly. Claude Code is quick, and one missing semicolon can take a site down.

So Claude never edits your live theme. Theme files are copied into a draft (a duplicate of your current theme, or a fresh child theme), PHP is linted before it saves, and when the draft is published Kitepod checks the home page and the REST API. If there's a fatal error, the old theme is swapped back automatically. The last 10 theme generations are kept, so you can roll back further than one step.

Everything Claude writes outside the theme is snapshotted first and can be undone for 90 days. That covers the show-notes edit above as much as a menu or a setting.

Who gets the most out of it

People who already use Claude daily and run their own WordPress sites get the most: freelancers, small agencies, and owners who've become the website person by accident. Every connected site is in the same conversation, so you can ask about five sites without switching anything.

But it needs a self-hosted site that can run plugins, so most WordPress.com plans are out. If you're still comparing ways to plug an assistant into WordPress, the WordPress MCP page lays out the options and what each costs.

Finer points

Is there a Claude WordPress plugin?

There's one plugin, and it's Kitepod's, on your WordPress site. The Claude side is a custom connector in Claude's settings. Together they give Claude 51 tools on your site, from editing posts to running a PageSpeed audit.

Does Claude need my WordPress password?

No. You connect with OAuth and pick which WordPress user Claude acts as. Claude never sees a password and never gets more permissions than that user.

Does it work with Elementor or Divi?

Yes. Bricks, Elementor, Beaver Builder and Breakdance layouts are saved through that builder's own code, and Divi 4 or Divi 5 pages are edited as a whole. There's more in Claude and Elementor.

Can Claude delete my site?

No. Claude can trash posts and pages, which you can undo, and permanent deletes wait for a person. Deleting the site itself isn't something Kitepod does at all.

What does it cost?

Kitepod is free, with unlimited sites and tool calls. You pay Anthropic for your Claude plan, same as now, and on a Free Claude account the one custom connector you get is enough to run it.

And if you add the connector on claude.ai first, Anthropic's docs say it's already waiting in Claude Code the next time you log in there with the same account.
